Invisalign Teen Woolloongabba: Had braces as a teen, teeth have moved very slightly, should I get Invisalign?

Had braces as a teen, teeth have moved very slightly, should I get Invisalign?

I had braces 8 years back as a 17 year old, got them off after 18 months although my orthodontist had initially recommended 3 more months, but he was fine when I wanted to get them off early. I wore retainers 24/7 for first 6 months, then most nights a week till date, inspite of that, tiny gaps have developed between my upper front teeth, invisible to most but it still depresses me.

Should I get Invisalign to fix that?

Answer
No, there is no need to pay 5-7grand on ortho Tx. Talk to your dentist about crowns, veneers or most likely bonding treatment. And have him/her make you a new retainer once you close up your gaps. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Invisalign Teen Salisbury: Cheaper Invisalign?

Cheaper Invisalign?
I had braces for about 4 years in my teens and i had really bad teeth before then ( one of my front tooth was practically in front of the other making it hard to eat )

My teeth were perfectly straight and i wore my retainer for the right amount of time, but my teeth are still moving back over the past few years and I'm worried there going to be back to how they were.
Invisalign is about 3,000 i wouldn't be able to afford then for years or get them on finance with me being a student also i don't think i could have normal braces as my teeth aren't very strong (due to having really bad mourning sickness with my first child) so i don't think they could handle normal braces so id need Invisalign or something similar.

Answer
There is no short cut to this one as they are only ever a private option and you need to remember that the price quoted is for the entire treatment period and retainers whether it is six months or six years.

The NHS has only ever worked with under 19 and in full time education and you have has your one course of treatment. They only fund the one. You also could have had a new retainer made to fit and stop any further treatment once you were aware a problem was occurring and you would not be in this position.

The teaching hospitals only help out really very complex cases that need specialist referral and would be hard to get into .

You will gain nothing by travelling abroad either as it will be extremely difficult to find a UK orthodontist to continue the treatment plan because of issues of liability so the time and expense of follow up abroad will need to added in. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Invisalign Teen Hervey Bay: Invisalign Teen Questions?

Invisalign Teen Questions?
I'm only i think a stage one cause my teeth are not that bad but i don't like them my dentist says I need braces but I want Invisalign (don't want train track teeth) my insurance cover about $2000 so how much should it cost thank you.

Answer
The price depends on the number of trays and the length of treatment. You need to see an orthodontist to determine if Invisalign is even a possibility. It isn't for all conditions. I really don't recommend Invisalign for teens because I don't think most of them will follow the specific instructions.

Usually it cost $4,000-6,500. I am getting mine at the beginning of the month and it was $5,500. So it would be around $2,000-4,5000. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Invisalign Teen Cannon Hill: How Much does Invisalign Cost for Teens?

How much does Invisalign cost for teens?
I have baby spaces between my teeth and an overbite its not as embarrassing as it sounds. I was thinking about Invisalign and how much will it cost for a 14 year with insurance to get Invisalign.

Answer

The cost depends on the number of trays needed and the length of treatment. An orthodontist will be able to to give your parents a price for Invisalign if it is an appropriate treatment. It is not for all conditions. In general, Invisalign costs about $3000-4000 per jaw. There are thousands of insurance policies, and each is different. Your parents can call their carrier and ask about coverage for braces.

I do not recommend Invisalign for teens because I don't think most will follow the specific directions. If your problems are minor, wait until you are older.

Ok so Invisalign teen and Invisalign adult costs about the same.
What can make the costs higher or lower is the severity of the case. Now, I don't know much about all those dental health thing but I'm in the exact situation ad you. I'm 12 (yes I'm not slowed to use Y!a but whatever) and I had to get braces because of my overbite and I Really didn't want to because I'm just not those kids that let their parents do whatever they want to their kids :P so.. I went to 3 different dentist and FINALY there is one dentist that let me get invisalign !! YAY!!! So if you are talking about cost.. Mine cause $5000 and my teeth are straight and only very little crowding with an overbite. I'd you are wounding if you can actually get invisalign teen, you probably can you just need the right dentist and a good provider. The first two dentist I went to said no to invisalign. Then when I asked further about invisalign it turned out they didn't even have invisalign!!! So make sure you find the right dentist!!!! :) So yeah.. And don't leg anybody that doesn't agree with invisalign change tour mind!! It doesn't take a long time than braces!! (example it takes 25 aligners... It only will take a year to do it.. While braces = about 2 years OR EVEN MORE!!!) so you are lucky if your parents let you get invisalign teen AND DON'T TAKE THIS CHANCE FOR GRANTED :D

Whether you're an adult or teen doesn't effect the cost, it's how bad your teeth are. The worse they are the more it will cost, but it doesn't sound like yours will be too expensive.

In the U.S., the cost of Invisalign treatment ranges from $3,500 to $8,000, with the national average at about $5,000. For very simple cases (up to five sets of aligners), Invisalign can cost as little as $2000, and sometimes even less. Check with your Invisalign provider to determine what treatment option is best for you.

On average, insurance pays over $500 of treatment costs. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

There is no such thing as average. Every case is different. One person might have them for six months, another for six years. The cost also depends on the length of treatment. You need to make an appointment with an orthodontist for a consultation which is often free.

Invisalign Teen Townsville: I want braces really bad?

Invisalign Teen Townsville: Do I really Need Braces for My Teeth?
I want braces or even that Invisalign Teen thing because I hate my teeth so much I have a gap and an overbite and other stuff and its really lowering my self esteem. And I keep asking my mom and she says that the stupid dentist says i don't need them when it is so obvious I do. Every time I ask my mom she gets mad and I cry because I don't even like to smile anymore cause of how messed up my teeth have been getting in the past years. what do I do?

Answer

Precious, often it's simply the matter of cost and no money. There is a program thru most dental offices where the total cost can be financed, without interest for 18 months. The monthly payment is exactly 1/18 of the total. It is thru GECapital. There is no qualifying, and it's as simple as your dentist submitting for approval while you sit there..takes a few minutes. Ask you mom if money's the problem, and then talk to your dentist. Btw, I'm not an advocate for the lender, I happen to know someone who had to get his teeth pulled and get dentures. Retired on Social Security, he had no way to pay $2500. He was financed immediately thru his dentist office with GECapital, They asked him to tell people about them, it's for everyone with some income.

I used to do the same. I had a pretty bad spacing in one of my front teeth, slightly crooked bottom teeth, and buck teeth. I knew I needed braces, my ortho told me, but I wasn't ready. I had more teeth to lose.

I got my braces on and I automatically hated them. They are so hard to take care of. Constant brushing and flossing, rubber bands, getting them tightened, etc. Trust me, you aren't going to love them when you get them on.

But it's also about the money. Braces run from $3,000 to $5,000, which ISN'T cheap. My parents paid $5,000 for my brother's braces, plus a Herbst appliance and more. He wore them for 5 years and didn't take care of them, he got them off and refused to wear his retainer. His teeth are shifting back to their original state. Maybe your parents dont think you'll take care of them? No money?

If you disagree with your dentist, maybe go see a different one. Do you have an orthodontist yet? Because they are actually the ones who would know more about when you need braces and could definitely help you out more. Tell your mom that your teeth are making you self-conscious and I'm sure she will try and help. Braces are really expensive, so be patient with your mom if she is unable to afford it right now. I'm sure that your teeth look worse to you because people are always picking out their own flaws. Other people look at you differently and see YOU, not your teeth. Sure, it's nice to have a pretty smile, but honestly, ANY smile is pretty. Don't be afraid to talk or smile and just be you! :) [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Invisalign Teen Parrearra: Does Medicare cover invisalign?

Does Medicare cover invisalign?
Blah well I'm looking into invisalign teen but my dilemma is that I don't know if Medicare covers it where I live. I want that over the braces because im self-conscious about my smile and want straight teeth without having a mouth full of wire and without having people noticing. My teeth aren't really bad just like 3 or 4 teeth so the braces wouldn't be covered all the way because I don't have enough points whatever that means. So would Medicare cover invisalign? I like in chicago if it matters. Thanks!

Answer
Medicare is a national program, so the rules are the same in every state. No, it does not cover Invisalign. If you mean Medicaid, that is different, but I'm sure it does not either.

And no dental insurance will cover braces just for cosmetic reasons, and that's why you want them. My orthodontist does not recommend Invisalign for teens at all, and I agree.

I just got braces on a few days ago, but I am having trouble closing my teeth together completey. This means that I can't chew any food either. Is this suppose to happen? Has anyone else had this problem. All I want to do is rip these braces off my teeth they are really annoying and uncomfortable and I can't talk properly.

Answer
I had the same problem when I first got mine but it does get much better and easier to handle. it sounds weird now to you but when you get them off, you will want them back on cuz your teeth will feel soooo loose and like they are moving all over the place. You will want the sturdiness of the braces. Trust me, it does get much easier.

Braces Robina: How do you get your braces to stop hurting?
I just got my braces on, and they hurt badly. I have taken medicine and eaten ice cream, but is there anything else that I can do? Do Braces Hurt?

Answer
Hi there! Okay, there is a bunch of things you can do. Try getting a water bottle with ice water, and just putting the water in your mouth, like you are going to use a mouth rinse, but don't spit it out. The wires in your braces loosen with the cold.

Also, try going to your local CVS/Walgreens, and buying some canker sore medicine, and putting it all over your mouth. You should take some ibuprofen to help with the swelling, and take naps, they help a lot.
I don't recommend you eat solid food for 3/4 days after getting your braces on, it hurts like heck! The pain will be over in a few days, and remember, it's worth it in the end!

Related Answer
When I got my braces on, my mouth hurt like crazy for a while (many weeks). After a while, though, they stopped hurting and I was totally used to them. Take Tylenol and don't eat anything hard or chewy for a while. Your teeth move the most the first few weeks you have braces, and your mouth needs to get used to them, so they will hurt for a while, but it will get better.

Related Answer

Just wait it out, keep taking your medicine and enjoy all the ice cream and spoiling from your parents you can get. It'll stop after a while, took me a couple days before I could eat solid foods and about a week before the pain was pretty much gone. I took a lot of naps when I got my braces on, just to kind of "skip" time periods where you'd be in pain. Don't worry, the pain will stop, just give it a day or 2 and you'll be feeling much better. Trust me, just enjoy the spoiling while you can.

Okay, i just got braces literally an hour ago so they just explained everything to me... the orthodontist should have given you this plastic thing to bite down on.. and if you don't have that try some Advil or Tylenol. and if its your gums that hurt or r sore then try Orajel or stick wax on the braces that r scratching up against it.

Braces Geebung: How will braces make my baby teeth come out?

How will braces make my baby teeth come out?
I recently went to the orthodontist and he recommended I get braces to help my baby teeth come out. He said my adult teeth aren't pushing my baby ones out because they are coming in at an angle. What I want to know is, how are the braces going to help my baby teeth come out, and will this hurt me? Thanks.

Answer

If it were me or my kids, I would learn how to use a water pik with an antibacterial solution like Xylitol. When I was 14 my teeth were in very bad condition, already had several cavities in my adult teeth and my wisdom teeth were coming in mangled and partially mineralized. I learned from Dr. Robert Onara that if I used a water pik with an antibacterial solution that my cavities would heal. Not only did my cavities heal, but my wisdom teeth came in and straightened out and remineralized. The troubles we have with cavities and gum disease and even crooked teeth are due to bacterial colonies. When we flush them out our mouths become balanced and strengthened.

Braces Warwick: What are the chances of having teeth pulled out when getting braces?

What are the chances of having teeth pulled out when getting braces?
I've heard that a lot of people getting braces don't have enough space in their mouth to straighten their teeth, so a tooth or two may be pulled out before getting braces. But I've also heard that if you have adult teeth, nothing will grow back in its place. I may be getting braces next week, and what really scares me is if I'll have some teeth pulled out. What are the chances? And if I have a low pain tolerance, would you recommend me taking some kind of pain killer or let the dentist handle it?

Answer
Hi there :)
I got my braces on in my late 20s, but i didn't get any teeth pulled. although the first ortho i went to told me i would have to have 2 teeth pulled out, the second one i went to said nothing about it. my main problem, aside from overbite, was crowding on top but still, he found enough spaces for all my teeth to fit there and i still have all my wisdom teeth too. also you're saying that you might be getting braces next week... does that mean you already went for a consult to your ortho office? if so, then they should have been able to tell you whether they will be removing any teeth. usually you go for a consult first and that's when they look and tell you what the course of treatment will be.
In any case, good luck and yes, braces are worth it. (Had braces for over 2 yrs, got them off recently.)

Related Answer

Don't worry about it. More likely than not, it will be a quick procedure, with no form of tooth pulling required. and the dentist will put you under, so dont worry about that either. just get ready to have nice, straight teeth.

Related Answer
I had four adult teeth pulled when I got my braces. The teeth don't grow back, but it's fine because when your remaining teeth get straight their will be no spaces so you won't be able to telll you had teeth pulled. Getting the teeth out, for me, only hurt when they pulled. Nothing else hurt. I didn't need to take any pain killers at all.

Probably 50/50. Lucky me I have just enough room for my wisdom teeth to grow in! My friend Vanessa has to have more than 5 I think.

Related Answer
50% chance.
What matters is if theres enough space for them to actually get straightened.

If they're literally jumbled up in you're mouth like a rolled up piece up paper, then you could get them pulled to make room for other teeth.

However, when I first got braces, I did not need to have any teeth removed.
Hopefully you won't either. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

In addition to Alliecat, it could also be the size of your teeth. I have very small teeth so my braces were very prominent. My friend has very large teeth and his braces were less noticeable. (And pink.)
Valentine's Day was awful when I got pink and red. The pink looked like part of my gums and the red made them look like they were bleeding. Swollen, bleeding gums. Thank god my braces are gone now.

When the wire from your braces start to poke, does that mean you teeth are moving?
I have had my ceramic braces for two days and already im using wax to cover the wire in the back.

Answer

Yes they are, if you can imagine a crooked piece of wire eventually straightening out, the wire is going to get longer to compensate. I hope this helps, when you get your next adjustment the first thing they do is trim the back wires, if it is too long and you can't wait till your appointment, just give them a call and ask them if they can quickly trim the back distal end wires for you.
Good luck!

I might have braces until the end of ninth grade. I want to make the high school cheerleading team. I know smiling is one the most important things to do at tryouts, but I want to know if having braces in my mouth will affect my score or anything. It shouldn't, but some people can be kind of shallow.

Answer
Wtf, if any of thsoe girls turn you down becuase you have braces then that's gay, that's like turning down a guy because he has a different color hair than you, that's like Hitler.

Take a chance, i doubt it will but if those girls are shallow enough to turn you down than join competitive cheer, or rec cheer, rec cheer is at almost any local gym that teaches lessons or anything, competitive cheer is a huge commitment but its totally fun and you don't get turned down by either becuase of your facial differences.

Cheerleading is a sport it's not a pageant, tell them that if they turn you down.

Noo, braces shouldn't affect your chances at all. I got braces (recently got them off) last year, as a freshman, and I was, and am a cheerleader now. Although i was on the team before tryouts, there were girls who had braces and made the team anyway. Yes, smiling and being spirited is important, but braces don't make a difference. You can get your braces so that the colors match your schools colors, but it doesn't matter really. I had light blue braces the whole time I had braces, and my schools colors are red and black. Braces shouldn't affect whether you make the team, but how you present yourself and your skills, will affect your chances
good luck!

Answer
On your braces there are hooks they will give you these little rubber bands called elastics when you are ready. They will tell you how to put them on and when to wear them and what not, these rubber bands make your braces process go faster. SO wear them when you have to!

They allow the vertical growth of the posterior teeth while they put the anterior teeth fixed in place, then when the back teeth are grown the anterior teeth separate from each other like a scissor and your increased overbite is gone.

While you have braces your teeth move into place. when youre ready your dentist will give you elastics and show you how to put them on to move the overbite and make a perfect smile.

However, i don't mean the traditional metal brace i mean the ones that are like a mould and clear plastic, on my lower set of teeth. Would this be free or cost a lot?

Answer
The NHS isn't free to everybody now. Criteria has changed. It depends which category you fall into. Group 3 is borderline, could be free, could have to pay private. If you fall into category 4 or above then it is free. Unfortunately, my daughter was in one of the lower categories and is undergoing treatment now. The total cost of her brace is £2700. I had a quote from another orthodontist of £4600 for the same brace. Some orthodontists are alot more expensive for private treatment than others, you just have to shop around. You cannot get a clear brace on the NHS fullstop. The NHS will only pay for what is needed. My son is a category 4 and I get his treatment free. But, he has to have a metal brace. If I want a clear one, I pay privately or go without. Hope this helps.

Cost of braces Ashgrove: How much do braces cost?

How much do braces cost?
I have no health insurance at all and it would be of a cosmetic need. My teeth are a lil crooked and I just never got around to it and I think I want to get them sometime. Oh and what does it feel like too? Would those invisi ones work for crooked teeth or gaps or what?

Answer
It's in the thousands and it hurts when you first get them on and when you get them adjusted every 3-4 weeks. You can't eat as much and brushing your teeth is more difficult. Your teeth come out yellowish no matter how much you brush. I had braces for 4 years and brushed a lot and they came out yellow.

You can work out a payment plan with the orthodontist. the total cost for your braces would depend on several things, incl. how long you'll need to wear them. braces for one of my sons ended up being a little over $4000, spread out over several years. course it was totally worth it when i see him smiling today with perfectly aligned teeth! ;) it does hurt some when and after they adjust the braces cuz it's pulling the teeth into alignment little by little, but my son took advil and that helped. not sure about how the invisi braces work tho, sorry. those are new since both my sons had braces.

Something funny they always loved doing is they each got the bands for their braces that glowed in the dark. they'd go upstairs and stand near the bathroom light for a few minutes, then flip the light off, my youngest son would flip the lights off downstairs, then we'd sit on the couch and watch my two other sons come down the stairs, grinning. thing is, in the dark, all you could see of them were these 'floating teeth', LMAO!! omg it was hilarious! we have videos of them doing that, and even at their ages now, it's by far their most favorite thing to do, watching that video when we all get together. ;)

I paid $5500 for the white (less visible) braces/ two year treatment. With Invisalign, you have to get a new mouthpiece every couple of weeks, and it doesn't align your bite like regular braces. Regular braces are uncomfortable when you first get them, but you get used to it. They are also more difficult to brush. My insurance, however, doesn't cover braces - I make a monthly payment. My teeth are not super horrible. There is one slightly overbite tooth on top. And one tooth that is SLIGHTLY leaning back on the bottom. I thought the worse your teeth, the more it is going to cost.

How much do you think the braces will cost?

My son has to get braces and it will end up costing ud about $5000 dollars. It all depends on which teeth get braces (top, bottom, or both). and how long you have to wear them.

I just got my braces in June. My teeth were very pretty, but I got them just to straighten them up a little and make them look even better. i only have to have them on for 12 months, and they cost $4800. Luckily, we have good insurance. Our insurance paid $2400. Most insurance company's don't do that. Even our orthodontist said we were lucky. So depending on the length of time you have them on it will be more. You can pretty much gaurentee around $3000 to $4000 with insurance helping. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Cost of braces Woolloongabba: Cost of invisalign braces compared to regular metal braces?

How much do the invisalign braces cost compared to the regular metal braces?
Have a preteen that may be getting them for her impacted teeth but parents have never had braces. Estimate of monthly cost would be helpful. Any info you provide would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Invisalign would not be the treatment of choice for a child with impacted teeth. While they may be esthetic, invisalign is best used for minor crowding and simple retreats. Traditional braces are much more efficient and effective in treating malocclusions (improper bites). But to answer your question, invisalin is typically at least $1500 more than traditional braces due to increased lab cost and will probably run you upwards of $6000 from an orthodontist and probably a little less from a general dentist though they do not have near the training or expertise to straighten teeth. If esthetics is you and your child's upmost concern you should talk to your orthodontist about using ceramic or clear braces on the upper teeth only. The ceramic is a harder material than your tooth enamel so it is better to use metal brackets on the lower teeth to reduce enamel wear should your child bite on the lower brackets. Most orthodontist require a down payment and then split the remaining balance over the estimated treatment time which averages 26 months. There is also third party financing available for braces. I hope this helps.

Right now i say about the average for invisalign is at 5000.00. For simple cases at least 3500.00
How bad are your teeth? It really depends on your teeth and how long it will need to take to keep them on.
Do you have insurance? I had insurance and my daughter had braces put on. Its been alittle over a year and her teeth are in perfect condition. I'd say another 1/2 year and we'll be done.
She had it done with no pain or extractions.
they have a new system where they can fix your teeth without pulling them out. The only thing is that you'll need to have your wisdom teeth out. Your other teeth remain where they are.
Also have all your cavaties filled. It helps so they won't have to work around your braces.
i think braces are better. They work faster.

Cost of braces Salisbury: How much do you think my braces would cost?

How much do you think my braces would cost?
My first appointment was an Invisalign consultation.. My orthodontist gave me a print out of how much the Invisalign would cost the print out said that the cost was 3,500 and my insurance covered 1,500 dollars plus a 500 coupon on all traditional braces and invisalign. My final cost was 1,500 Dollars. My second appointment I had a tooth extracted. Because I was told I was required to before getting invisalign. When I got home from my 2nd appointment , I decided to just go with Traditional Braces. So my next appointment will be on April 20th. And will be requesting Traditional Braces instead. Would the Traditional Braces cost less than the Invisalign?

My doctor at the moment still has yet to do any impressions or take any xrays. And I still have yet to approve the Invisalign print out. So at the time i'm assuming it is still alright to change my decision next appointment. My ortho also told me I would have invisalign for only 8 months and is considered an express case. He had told me that I have verrrrry mild crowding and this is not a severe case at all.

Answer
Normally Invisaligns are more expensive then traditional braces. My braces cost $6000.

Related Answer

It all depends on where you get it done. Many general dentists charge less for Invisalign than for traditional braces.

Have you informed your dentist that you have changed your mind? If you have already had the workup and seen the online results (they call it a "ClinCheck"), the dentist might have already paid out the money to the Invisalign lab.

To switch treatment methods now might mean an entirely new set of records and time for the dentist to re-design the case.

Any reason for your change of heart?

Answer
Discuss this with your parents first, and then your orthodontist. Ask if you can only get it on your top teeth. Braces are expensive, and can be anywhere from approximately $2000 to $6000. The cheapest type of braces would be the common metal ones. The more expensive ones are the braces with clear brackets and Invisalign. Don't forget that you'll need to buy a retainer as well after removing your braces to maintain your straight teeth.

$4000 and that was just labor. They also want an extra $500 for cosmetic braces and $225 for tests and x-rays. It's a bit steep...especially for a dental school.

Does anyone know of a less expensive but high-quality orthodontist in the NYC area?

Answer
I teach at a University orthodontic clinic - the fee you were quoted is almost the same as what we charge. You will find significant variation based on the type and length of treatment, as well as regional differences. Also, it is common to add on additional fees for clear braces and for the records (x-rays).

Generally speaking, adult fees will differ from child fees, even for the same problem. There are usually more things to deal with in adult treatment.

Related Answer

Unfortunately, lots of dental schools have been pushed from academia into the world of business. At my alma mater, where fees were about 1/3 of what was charged in private practice when I was in school(25 years ago), the going rate is now nearly what I charge in the high rent suburb of the same city. I'm sorry you can't easily find a better deal and hope you will still consider getting treatment. Good luck to you!

It really does make a difference where you go as to the cost of any dental work. I have to tell you I had to have a tooth pulled and another filled. Dental clinic Gladstone: I have an overbite

I have an overbite :(
I'm 14 and I always knew my profile looked a little weird. But I'm not very observant and I've only been to the dentist twice in my life (yeah, I know) so I wasn't really educated on these things. So I realized recently that the major thing messing up my face is my overbite which I measured as almost a quarter of an inch. I also have a mouthful of cavities. My family is very poor and my parents seem to be content with completely neglecting my and my brother's teeth, but I really think I need at least 4 fillings (I have toothaches right now and can see the spots!!) and braces. I'm going into high school next year and it's already a big bummer this wasn't taken care of when I was younger. So PLEASSEEEE, what can I do? What's the cheapest I can get braces? Does invisalign correct overbite completely? How long does it take to correct overbite? Is there any type of retainer or headwear I can wear at night to fix my overbite (and can get cheap..)? Are there dental clinics in the U.S. where you can get cheap fillings?

Whenever I force my lower jaw out so my teeth are even I look so much better besides the obvious strain. It's really very unsightly and even though I really don't want to wear braces during high school I really, really want to get it fixed because I've finally figured out one huge thing I can do to make myself more attractive (I'm ugly- it's not self esteem, trust me. Boys have never liked me and as a kid I didn't have any friends even though I'm perfectly nice). I'm already such a mess since I've realized how badly my parents neglected me by not taking me to the dentist (and never an orthodontist) from the time I was 5 to the time I was 14.... :( I read that jutting your jaw out to fix overbite will give you neck problems and a sagging jaw.

Answer
I know how you feel man. I had an overbite once. Most orthodontists have a payment plan where you can pay a certain amount every month for how long until you reach the prices for the cost of your braces. Please convince your family to at least get those cavities filled. It'll be very sad to see teeth loss due to poor oral hygiene and the pain will only get worse. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Do not hesitate to choose a university dental facility for your dental care. The students' work is checked step by step by supervising dentists. The work is very, very SLOW and methodical, but very THOROUGH and will be your most affordable option.

Orthodontist Ashgrove: Are technicians allowed to do the orthodontist work or help him?
My son's orthodontist is using technicians to do his work and some of them looks like without experience. I need to ask for certifications or experience time of this technicians? Does the orthodontist can do that.

Answer
It varies from state to state, but in most cases the orthodontist only is allowed to cement brackets and place/adjust wires. Licensed dental assistants or hygienists may do place the colored bands/chains. A hygienist is often called to scale off any extra cement or similar problems. Usually, the assistant or hygienist will remove old bands and sometimes remove the wire when the patient first arrives. The orthodontist will come in and take a look and replace a wire or adjust the same one as needed. The assistant and/or hygienist take back over and put bands back on and send the patient on his/her way. Removal of brackets should always be done by the orthodontist, but a hygienist often helps with cement removal. Yeah, impressions and molds are done by either the assistant or hygienist too.

Techs are allowed to assist the orthodontist, by making the impressions of your teeth, (in their current positions), and making the corrective, clear, molds to align them. Maybe a few other minor jobs.
Every tech should have been trained to do exactly the work they perform. If you are having any trouble with devices used in your treatment, advise your orthodontist/doctor immediately. I have told them I don't want a certain person working on/with me. Very rare. Trust you instincts, as they are usually right. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Answer
yes you do have to go to an orthodontist to get braces on. They usually do a check up or whatever on the first appointment to determine the cost of the braces and what they will need to do. I think there is a copay for that, but nothing EXTREMELY expensive.

Yes, you have to go to an orthodontist. Your dentist cannot do it because they are not certified to. You want only the best messin' with your teeth, right?

Your dentist can probably recommend a person, or a friend or family memeber could to. Then you just call and make and appointment. Your orthdontist will tell you whether you need braces or not. They'll be nice. Mine is.

You always have to make and appointment, even if it is your millionth time going there. They will work on your mouth as they see fit.

When my sister got braces, she had to have some teeth pulled, but she had extra. However,I don't think the orthodontist will pull your teeth if he/she didn't mention. They like to let you know about stuff like that so you van be prepared for the extra expense. I couldn't say about the crown!

Been there done that, when you see your new orthodontist just explain what happen and be honest. I had no problem when I explained what had happen with the previous doctor.

And through court order the old orthodontist that started the process with my braces had to finish the process with my braces. Some one from the court house was there when he removed the remaining parts of my braces. No charge! Boy was he mad and I had a great smile after he was done.

Answer
Call other orthodontists, that your insurance will help pay for. When you call them, tell them you already have brackets from your last ortho, and that they never took them off.

At the new place, they most likely will take them off, and put their own brackets...so that they are the same as their other patients.

That's what happened to me. i hate orthodontists that are rude like that. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Orthodontist Woolloongabba: How does the orthodontist take photos of your mouth?

How does the orthodontist take photos of your mouth?
It seems difficult to me for a orthodontist to take pictures of your mouth, especially like the top. What type of camera does the orthodontist use?

Answer

With a camera and cheek retractors. they will also use a large mirror to take the pictures inside the mouth the mirror goes right inside your mouth and they can take a picture of your upper and lower arch. probably the easiest thing you will ever have to do. x-rays too of course, but i assume you know this already.

X-ray machine.

Yes, they do use x-rays, but I think you are talking about a actual camera camera that they use. I know what yu are talking about, but I can't think of the name, sorry.

I don't know what camera it is but they spread your lips out with this stretcher type thing! [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Dentist Salisbury: What is the spring that my dentist placed on my braces for?

What is the spring that my dentist placed on my braces for?
I've got braces and my dentist placed a spring on the bottom section of my teeth what is it for? I've noticed a tooth is separating is that meant to happen?

Answer

He is creating space. Either for a tooth that has not come in yet, a tooth that is set back behind others, or for an eventual implant. Also, he could be using it to push a tooth in the direction he wants it to go. If you have a power chain pulling on either of those teeth at the end of your spring, then the chain is pulling the tooth over while the spring is pushing it over. It's like a double force.

Related Answer
Yes, it's what is meant to happen. It's a coiled spring wire which works by placing a slight but constant pressure, to open an area creating extra space for the teeth to be pulled into their correct alignment or position. Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your ortho! [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Dentist Hervey Bay: How long does it take to get braces after a dentist appointment?

How long does it take to get braces after a dentist appointment?
I'm going to the dentist tomorrow. If he says I need braces, how long will it take until he can actually give me braces? Thanks.

Answer
well it depends if you need to loose more teeth or have some other problem. i know when i went to the orthodontist he fist said i needed headgear cuz i had a really big over bite and i had to wear that for 2 years 12 hrs a day. then i had to get a spacer which spaced out my teeth so i could get braces and i had to wear that for 1 year. i have braces now and have had them for over 2 years. but im getting them off next week!!! yay! but anyway so after i went to the dentist i had to wait like 3 years till i got my braces. so it all just depends! best of luck!

When I went for my appointment they told me I needed braces, and it was up to me to decided if I wanted them. When I was ready I just went to the Orthodontist and scheduled an appointment. So I think you can decide, or it just depends on the dentist.

It depends whether he is an orthodontist or not. If not then it'll probably like a 2 or 3 months it'll take longer if you need an expander or something like that
im getting mine on tomorrow.

4-6 weeks 4 weeks ago i was in an appointment thurs. I get mine.

it took me bout 5 weeks. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Dentist Cannon Hill: How do I ask my dentist for braces?

How do I ask my dentist for braces?
I'm 16, and I've needed braces for a while. My dentist hasn't mentioned anything about a brace. I have a rather large overbite which needs to be dealt with. I'm not very good at asking these types of questions. I get my treatment free on the NHS.
I would have mentioned it today, but I had my filling done and was numb from the novocaine so I couldn't speak right.
Help?

Answer

ahh..then do it after the pain is gone :) SO that you and your dentist would be able to discuss about the braces thoroughly.

Related Answer
The dentist would love to hear that you care enough about your teeth to want braces. No need to fear asking him anything. On the other hand, the orthodontist is the one that would be providing the treatment so you could call the orthodontist in your area to set up an appointment for a consult. They are expensive (Invisalign is even more costly), but most people are very happy with the results. Hope that helps.

Just drop in the fact that it may be a possibility that u might bead braces or say someone else told you that you needed braces and u were just checking to see if they were right. U wouldn't be lying. I bet someone will have told u that u need them since u know.

Just be honest and tell him. That's the best that you can do. R u sure u need them if he hasn't brought it up.

Just ask him what he thinks about you getting braces. But warning! They hurt like hell and are alot of money. Maybe ask for invisaline? [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Dentist Brisbane: Braces/Dentist?

Braces/Dentist?
okay well i had an appointment hmm.. dec 7 .. with the ordontic?? (sorry i cant spell).. anywho.. he looked @ my teeth and said i should get braces so.. we made another appointment and i finally got a call awhile ago and its the last week of may.. so what wil they do when i go ?? he said i will need 2 teeth pulled out . so will he pull the teeh out or what??? .. thanks

Answer
I think he meant pulled out like moved. If thats what he meant he'll use the braces to do that. When they put the braces in first they get a mold of your mouth. Then they fit your 2 round brackets (that go all the way around your teeth on your back 2 teeth). Next they glue all the little brackets on your teeth with special tooth glue. After, they put a wire in and tighten it. Next they use some colorful bands (you get to choose the colors) to hold the wire(you can switch these later) . The braces dont hurt very much going in but later they begin to hurt and the pain lasts about 3 days. GOOD LUCK! <3

The oral surgeon will pull the teeth, they won't pull them out there. They might take moulds, pictures and then you get the braces on.

What they will do, is put molding on your teeth to get a better look..and no they wont pull out your teeth..they usually send you to a dentist or sumthin. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Braces for adults Townsville: What do you think about adults that have orthodontic braces?

What do you think about adults that have orthodontic braces?
I am in my mid 20's and I have braces!

I had them when I was 12 and now over a decade later I had to get them again.
Lucky for me though, I only have to wear them for 18 months.
It is so embarassing though, people have asked me if I am 16 and said I am too young to be married.
People think its weird for an adult to wear braces.
People stare at my mouth all of the time and I feel like people think adults are too old for braces!
I think adult with braces have courage!!!

What do you think about it?

Answer
First of all it is a sign that you are an intelligent person who cares about your health. Misshaped teeth beside the unaesthetic aspect can influence your digestion or lead to other medical problems. Also they make it hard for you to brush your mouth correctly and so it increases the risk of cavities.

It's never too late to wear braces! The only thing that's different in adults is the time that teeth need to realign in the correct position. In children teeth reshape faster.

You will look great after and your body will thank you.

Braces for adults Pialba: Why are braces for adults so much more expensive then those for childre/teenagers?

Why are braces for adults so much more expensive then those for childre/teenagers?
I have to get braces again! (3rd time!) Why am I having to pay so much friggin more?

Answer

Because adult teeth and jaws have already gotten use to their place, and it will take much more force, and time to get them to move. While you are still young your teeth are easier to shift around and thus, making your treatment less expensive and time consuming.

I'm sorry about your situation I hope that this is the last time you have to come back to the orthodontist.

Related Answers
I think it's because the brackets are bigger or it's a different style for adults. Plus, I think adult gums are firmer and it takes longer for your teeth to move than children/teenager teeth.

The jaw bone in the adult mouth has become more dense and the teeth take longer to move into position. Sometimes it will take twice as long to obtain the desired result and thus will cost more.

Adult teeth are more old and they take more time to put in place but children's gums are more soft than adults which makes it easier.

Because most adults have more teeth.

Adult teeth need more care because they are grown in. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Braces for adults Parrearra: Is 6 month braces, only for adults or teenagers can use it as well?

Is 6 month braces, only for adults or teenagers can use it as well?
I need my teeth to be straightened, but I do not want to use regular braces because they take so long. I've been looking in to 6 month braces and I see that it's braces for adults. I was wondering if teenagers can use it as well. Thank you.

Answer
Teens can also use them, dentist usually don't recommend them since they are more expensive and most teens who use them think that they hurt to much and then have them removed with is a waste of money. But if you can tolerate pain then you should get them (but I didn't get those because the braces teens usually get hurts a lot and I don't like pain -well who does- so I really don't wanna know how much pain the adult braces cause) [source: Yahoo! Braces for kids Robina: How do you trust a dentist that says your kids need braces?

How do you trust a dentist that says your kids need braces?
Understanding that dentists run a business to generate profits, it seems most will recommend braces for kids. How do you know if they really need them? A couple of dentist have said they are necessary due to an overbite, but isn't a slight overbite normal. When do you know that it's more of a cosmetic procedure rather than a medically necessary one?

Answer
There are two big reasons for braces. The first is to improve function--like if there is trouble chewing, or if the patient keeps biting his cheeks, or if the teeth on the top and bottom are contacting in such a way that the forces between them are higher than normal, causing wear to the teeth, etc. Also, in super crowded teeth there are more areas that are harder to clean with the toothbrush, so straightening them out can help to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent tooth decay.

The second reason is obviously cosmetics, and although there are "ideal" skeletal profiles that dentists learn about, this is largely up to the patient. Some people are terribly self-conscious, while others are just fine with the way they look and have no interest in changing.

Most dentists recommend an ideal treatment plan with the goal of making your teeth as perfect as possible in both function (which is always the most important consideration) and cosmetics. Unfortunately, the more expensive treatments are often (but not always) the better ones because they take more time and higher quality materials are used. I like to think that for most of us, the money is secondary. A huge part of the treatment plan is also based on what YOU (and your child) ultimately want, and if you are unsure about the benefits to you then you should definitely discuss them with your dentist before you decide if you want to follow through. S/he should also tell you what could happen if you choose not to put braces on at this point.

By getting a few different opinions and asking lots of questions, you should get a good feel for whether you and your child are ready to go through with braces at this point. The decision is completely yours, and all you can really do is just be as informed as you can when you make it.

Related Answer
Really, don't dentists only refer patients to orthodonists? So really, it is the orthodontist who is making most of the profit.

My parents both work in dentistry, and my dad especially is quite a perfectionist, but he doesn't recommend treatment solely for the purpose of making a profit. I don't know about other dentists though.

I've had a binator and braces, and mine were probably mainly for cosmetic purposes. I didn't think there was any point in getting them beforehand, but now I've had them I can really see a difference.

I suppose, in the end, it's really your opinion to whether a procedure is really necessary.

That's really up to you- and how much you trust your dentist.

My son was told he needed braces when he was 8 years old- and with all the new teeth coming in- it looked pretty bad. But now that he's a teenager- his mouth has grown into his teeth- and it's clear that braces really aren't needed.

Does anyone know where I can get my kids braces for cheap?
I have 2 kids they may or may not have to get braces but if so I have to pay out of pocket and I heard their expensive. Im in michigan does anyone know of an office that does payment plans

Answer
I'm Canadian, so I can't really give much advice in terms of Michigan clinics. That said, you can contact local clinics or your local dental association and you should gain some insight. If that doesn't work out, if you live near a dental school, you can try there- your children will be examined by a dental student (under the watchful eye of a licensed dentist) to determine whether or not treatment is required, and to treat them accordingly. Because these are students performing the treatments and exams, their fees are substantially cheaper than standard dental offices. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Braces for kids Warwick: Can my ex wife make me pay for half of my kids braces before insurance?

Can my ex wife make me pay for half of my kids braces before insurance?
My Ex is remarried and carriers dental insurance on our kids through her work insurance and her new husbands insurance. She is stating that I owe half of the amount for braces without her new husband using his insurance. I told that is fine if she doesn't submit it to his insurance, but if she does and his insurance pays then I should only owe half of the out-of-pocket costs. Does anyone know if I am right?

Answer
Actually you need to check with the provisions of your divorce decree. I found out that since braces are "cosmetic" that my ex-husband could refuse to pay for any of it, which he did. I paid for all out-of-pocket expenses for my son's braces all by myself.

Sounds like she's trying to get over on you!

You are.

That would be correct. She can't pocket the money that is covered by insurance.

You are correct. The idea is that anything not covered by insurance should be split 50/50. If she is not out of pocket, it's not an expense. [source: Yahoo! Answers]

Adult Braces Beenleigh: Do I Need to Worry about Getting Braces?

Adult Braces Beenleigh: Do I need to worry about Getting Braces?
I am getting braces soon and surgery to pull-into-place an adult tooth which is lodged in my gum.?
What is the most important thing that i need to do? What colors for braces would you suggest? Should I have the surgery to pull-into-place my adult tooth? Is there anything that I shouldn't eat? I am turning 16 in Aug. and I don't like to brush my teeth but I do. Haven't had any extensive work (no cavities nothing) and I love the dentist when i do go. Is there anything i do need to worry about with braces?

Answer
Well, your dentist/orthodontist office should tell you what you need to do exactly. BUT, here's a list of things that may be handy. I don't know the extent of the surgery you will have because I can't see the X-ray of "where your tooth is now" vs. "where your dentist plans to put it into place", so I will provide what I know about the combinations of tooth extractions (which should be very similar) with the combinations of getting braces which I have had both of:

After the first 2 days of surgery:

  • Follow what your dentist says for bleeding or pain. Such as gauze, ice packs, if needed. Like I said, I don't know how far your teeth are getting moved or the extent of the damage/shock caused.
  • If you feel pain, use Aspirin or Ibuprofen (whichever is OK for you and your condition, for example no allergies, no pre-determined bad reactions in your system, you don't drink more than 3 drinks per day, etc. USE COMMON SENSE AND READ THE PAIN KILLER LABEL!!!)
  • Do NOT smoke for 12 hours.
  • Do NOT use a straw for about a week.
  • Do NOT brush your teeth or swish ANY liquid in your mouth for the first 2 days whether it be swishing with water, mouthwash, anything really. I know this sounds gross, but not doing these for a couple days won't kill you!! In fact, do not swish with ANYTHING for 7 days.
  • After 48 hours, you may brush your teeth, but be especially careful to be gentle around the extraction site.
  • After 48 hours, you should wash your mouth with salt water. By that, I mean to put approximately one teaspoon of salt to eight ounces (1 cup) of warm water. Do not swish, but put some of the water in your mouth, touching the surgery site, then open your mouth slightly and let it run out. Repeat until the water is gone.
  • After the surgery, eat only soft foods for about 2-5 days (depending on your comform level, for example if it causes you discomfort when eating a certain thing, stop eating it!!) and avoid chewing or getting food around the extraction site.

After getting your braces on:

  • Eat only soft foods for 3-5 days because your teeth and gums may be sore and you may feel pain from chewing.
  • You should use interdental brushes/picks to clean between your teeth after meals (optional, but very good for you)
  • You should floss between your teeth every day at night (mandatory)
  • Brush your teeth at least twice daily. Recommended times are after breakfast and before bedtime. (mandatory)

Please use a fluoride rinse like ACT after you brush your teeth at night before going to bed, every night. Trust me, it works wonders!

I had my braces off on Monday after 2 1/2 years and man the time went quick and it was so worth it. When you first get them on of course it's going to hurt and you will probably have to eat soft things for a week then for about 6 months every-time you get them tightened it will hurt but not as much as getting them on then eventually tightening won't hurt anymore.

I wouldn't recommend the light colours e.g silver, baby pink and blue, light green etc because they fade and look horrible. Dark blue, red, purple, pink and actually light red all look really nice and don't fade and turquoise is a definite favorite for most people. They will change the Colours every-time you go and if you want the colour you've already got just have new ones of that colour as it's quite un hygienic not to get them changed.

Brush your teeth morning and night or if you have food stuck in them and there is no need for these 'special' brushes a normal brush works just the same but do mouth wash. Now food, you want to start of easy so don't eat carrots, chocolate and things you think will break them, I made the mistake of eating chocolate and breaking my brace but after a while you know where to bite so you won't break them, don't eat chewing gum, chewy foods, toffee, apples (cut them up), corn on the cob or just generally hard stuff, and spicy foo is ok but can turn your brace green. Getting your tooth out will hurt but will be worth it, just have pain killers.

I've probably made it sound scarier than it is, don't worry because when you get them off you will feel great about your teeth and the process was so worth it. [source: Yahoo! Answers]
